A true piece of history.
This 1971 Dodge Polara was one of two real police cars used by the Nevada Highway Patrol for their EVOC training in the early 70s. Mopar Police Car fans may be familiar with the history of EVOC1 and EVOC2. These were & still are driver training courses with classes for police officers, for practice and refresher training in pursuit driving, vehicle safety, professional police driving, driving techniques and emergency driving techniques. To play out such scenarios, this fullsize is equipped accordingly and comes with the full Police Package. The factory "Two Tone" paint job with police labels, a massive 4 point roll cage in the cab and much more.

When you think of fullsize, you think of comfortable cruising. Of course, the feeling is comfortable here as well, but as soon as the gas pedal is pressed, the 370 hp 440 high performance engine with its heavy duty 727 automatic transmission really runs forward. A convincingly powerful driving experience. But not only the acceleration is remarkable, the driving stability is too! For this purpose, extra thick 1.00" torsion bars in the front and 6-layer leaf springs with rear HD mounts were installed at the factory. Of course, special shocks and a 15/16" front stabilizer bar are also fitted. The highlight, however, is the ¾" stabilizer bar on the rear axle, which we have never seen installed on a full-size car. Driving with it thus feels even at 150kmh still like dahingleiten. Even at 200km/h, this does not create fear in the driver for a long time. In order to implement a driving experience with smaller Mopars, this usually needs a lot of money. Other installed components that contribute to this are:

  • Locking differential (both rear wheels accelerate simultaneously)
  • Tighter steering gear
  • Mopar electronic transistor ignition
  • brake booster & disc brakes
  • 26" heavy duty radiator (water cooler)
  • Hi volume oil pump
  • Dual Snorkel Air Cleaner (air filter)
  • Hi Performance cast iron manifold

Jumping ahead to 1971, this video features the E.V.O.C. (Emergency Vehicle Operational Control) showing off their emergency vehicles. Among others also the Dodge Polara 440cui and how remarkable these cars were at that time in history.

Police car equipment

The Polaras equipment includes a 65 amp alternator that provides constant lighting, including the additional factory-mounted lighting in the front footwell and trunk. The Dodge`s interior features a manual oil pressure gauge and a tachometer in addition to the standard gauges in the dashboard. As usual in Police Cars, the typical white steering wheel, so is the floor. It is not carpeted as usual, but completely covered with an easier to clean rubber mat. The 4 point roll cage in the front driver's cabin is built in so that you can easily get in and out. In addition, the 3 point harnesses are attached to the upper part of the cage. Completely and qualitatively reconditioned are the seat benches. Above the bright blue headliner you can still feel the reinforcement plate that was welded in by Chrysler for mounting the roof lights on police cars.

Special order was also the "Two Tone" exterior paint, with blue body and silver roof. This was repainted inexpensively, so the paint has blossomed or chipped a bit in a few places like the roof and rear trim. The original paint can still be seen in some places like the engine compartment. Of course, the Highway Patrol labels are still on the car, as well as yellow warning stickers on the driver/passenger door and the rear sticker with the American flag. Special highlight are the blue painted 15" rims with dog dish caps "Dodge Version" and tires of 235-70-15 front & 255-60-15 rear. Also, tinted windows and turn signal sidemarkers front & rear.

As with all of our sale cars, we have compared the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) to the bodystamp numbers. The stamped numbers match the VIN & fender tag on this car. The engine and transmission have the "matching numbers". The casting date of the engine block is 02.11.0971. These facts also make it a unique one-off.

At the moment, the boss enjoys cruising around with this extremely rare vehicle, even for him. His favorite thing to do is to find technical defects and have them repaired. So far, the rear brake system has been overhauled, a torn engine mount has been replaced, an accelerator pump has been installed in the carburetor, the water pump has been replaced and all hinges have been greased.

In addition, the following has already been repaired:

  • All brake hoses renewed
  • Petrol system refilled
  • Carburetor repaired
  • Fuel line, from the pump to the carburetor, rebuilt to original
  • All rubber hoses in the fuel system renewed
  • All defective ball bearings renewed
  • Exhaust system & exhaust manifold sealed
  • Front left wheel bearing renewed
  • Engine compartment inner wheel arches removed, blasted, painted and reinstalled
  • complete splash guard set reinstalled
  • leaf spring bushings replaced with polyurethane bushings
  • New door panels in original look installed
