The Plymouth Road Runner is probably one of the most famous muscle cars of the 60s and early 70s and was also designed as exactly such at that time. While the first model years still had a somewhat angular look, the 1971 Road Runner offered here comes in a completely revised streamlined design. The front bumper enclosing the grille is probably one of the most striking design features of all. All in all, the design of the car alone with its wacky details exudes a strong breeze of muscle car flair coupled with the funky lifestyle of the early 70s. The extensive history of the car even goes back to the dealer where it was bought as a new car in 1971.

The vehicle offered here is a relatively advanced project. All work to date has been completed with the utmost care and attention to detail. So many hurdles have already been overcome on the way to a perfectly original Roadrunner. With a flawless body, drivetrain already installed and rolling on its own wheels, there is now the opportunity to take over the project at a stage where all the risks that could not be calculated have already been eliminated. The topping-out ceremony has already been celebrated, or in other words: All the hard work is done! From here on, it's almost just a matter of screwing the car together.
If you wish, we can of course finish the car according to your ideas or support you during the completion.

The car is powered by a 383cui (6.3 liter) big block in the Hi-Performance version with a four-barrel carburetor and other factory modifications. The engine has been completely rebuilt by us as part of this restoration. As a result, when the project is complete, it will offer the authentic driving pleasure that the car provided to its first owner in 1971. Another original feature of the car is the 4-speed manual transmission. While a manual transmission is nothing special on our local cars, muscle cars like this Road Runner are even more rare and sought after as original manual cars than they already are.
The body has already been very extensively stripped of all age-related imperfections and then perfectly painted in the original Curious Yellow color. This color belongs to the High Impact colors which had to be paid extra at that time and is again correspondingly rare to find as an original color.
In the spirit of the first muscle cars, the car is equipped with large drum brakes without brake booster, which provide adequate deceleration then as now. The power of the Hi-Performance V8 big block is transmitted via the original A-833 manual transmission to the large 8 3/4 inch rear axle. Steering is done with the help of the original power assist, which is certainly often welcomed. Overall, the Road Runner differs from its Plymouth sister models in its purist, sporty orientation.
Apart from wear parts, all parts needed to complete this project are present and many of them have already been very carefully refurbished. Even the decals typical for the Road Runner are already available. The "Road Runner" and "383" decals as well as the roadrunner typical transverse stripes which run from the rear wheel arch of one side over the roof to the other side. According to the Fender tag, the car was also equipped with this characteristic detail from the factory.
