This project was supposed to be much leaner. Unfortunately, the car then not only had a lot of putty on it, but its contours were not right at all. After we had the sheet metal between the rear window and the trunk lid out, a lot of rust showed up under the filler. When that was done, it turned out that the new sheet metal didn't match the other areas that had been filled. Finally, a lot more sheet metal was bought and processed, so that the planned painting was also worthwhile. Engine and transmission were also removed and the firewall for the new heating/air conditioning was adjusted/cleaned. During painting, the engine compartment could also be painted directly clean in the new car color.
As for the color, our customer came up with something particularly nice during the course of the project. He overturned the initial plans for a dark blue met. and opted for a strong B5 medium blue met. B really stands for blue here and the number behind it indicates the brightness. 1 would be the lightest, 9 the darkest. To this really brilliant strong shining blue he ordered additionally the "White Hat Special" Who would like to know more about it, here the official advertisement from earlier: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRzobeTk3W4
With great attention to detailwe then disassembled every little part, blasted, primed, adjusted, modified, optimized, polished, replaced or whatever was necessary done.
The entire interior was intensively damped, resulting in a more relaxed driving experience without an unnecessarily high basic sound level or rattling noises. Also the conversations in the vehicle run then clearly stress-free.
The wiring harness was rebuilt to a slightly modernized one. This included that the triple plug in the firewall is omitted and a plate with a hole was supplied, whereby then all cables should be carried out without plug connection. The whole thing looked so visually wrong that we have then rebuilt the wiring harness after consultation with the customer to the original bulkhead connector.
In general, we like to overhaul original heating and air conditioning systems, but in this vehicle, the customer opted for a new heater that also includes the air conditioning function. This saves space under the dashboard and is also lighter in weight. To keep the engine compartment look a bit cleaner we modified the kit a bit and put the lines through the passenger side inner fender.
Some may have noticed it in the pictures, the trims are mounted in total partially up to 3 times. The first time in when welding/working the body, the second time is then before the vinyl roof assembly and the third time is then final. Before the final installation of the windshields and rear window trim, the car is always pushed to the back of the yard to check it for leaks with lots of water from the water hose. Of course this could be shortened, but after so many years in the business we know exactly how much extra work it is to fix the problems later. In addition, the overall result is usually much worse when the defects are fixed later.
