Keith Black lock rings are designed for floating-pin pistons. Engines produced with press-fit pins can be converted to the _floating_ type, providing that the piston has provisions for a lock ring retainer. Many forged and hypereutectic pistons are designed to accommodate either style of pin. Floating pins are preferred by most serious engine builders.
